Despite the massive scale of the operation, which involved heavy machinery and a significant police presence, the government maintains a stance of complete ignorance, a claim that many, including members of the ruling party, find impossible to believe.
The sources describe a scene where families, some of whom have lived in the area for many years, were forced out of their homes as early as 8:30 AM while many were still asleep. Residents reported that authorities offered no legal documentation and denied them even two hours to gather their belongings.
According to the information, Nasir Nagar is a minority-dominated, working-class locality where residents have lived for 40 to 50 years. Media coverage and local representations further confirm that the vast majority of the 100 to 150 families displaced by this drive belong to the Muslim community.
The most controversial aspect of the event is the official denial by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). The SMC Standing Committee Chairman and the Municipal Commissioner have both claimed the corporation did not order the demolition. The Commissioner even suggested a third party (likely a private entity) might have brought their own bulldozers to the site.
