Sixteen Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli detention and transferred on Sunday via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza Strip.

The group of freed detainees, ranging in age from 30 to 63, includes residents from various areas across the Gaza Strip. Their arrival marks another step in ongoing efforts to secure the release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons amid the continuing Israeli offensive on Gaza.

The names of the released prisoners are as follows:

  1. Ahmed Kamel Abdel Al-Habil (47 years old) – Sheikh Radwan.

  2. Adel Abdullah Al-Tawil (50 years old) – Al-Maghazi.

  3. Ahmed Ismail Qannan (34 years old) – Gaza/Al-Daraj.

  4. Iyad Muhammad Nawfal (34 years old) – Jabalia.

  5. Salem Rushdi Jundiya (44 years old) – Al-Shuja’iyya.

  6. Muhammad Salman Al-Masri (63 years old) – Khan Yunis.

  7. Mahmoud Abd Abu Atiwi (39 years old) – Nuseirat.

  8. Khalil Abdullah Al-Tawil (62 years old) – Al-Maghazi.

  9. Muhammad Samir Zahd (39 years old) – Nuseirat.

  10. Muhammad Abd Abu Ras (44 years old) – Al-Zaytoun.

  11. Mahmoud Abd Abu Ras (45 years old) – Al-Zaytoun.

  12. Hani Salim Obaid (54 years old) – Al-Shuja’iyya.

  13. Alaa Shaaban Al-Harazin (51 years old) – Al-Shuja’iyya.

  14. Alaa Muhammad Abu Muhara (30 years old) – Al-Tuffah neighborhood.

  15. Alaa Bassam Abu Halima (43 years old) – Beit Lahia.

  16. Mustafa Hassan Hallouq (51 years old) – Nuseirat.

Medical teams at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital received the former detainees and began providing necessary health examinations and support following their release. Many of the men originate from neighborhoods heavily affected by repeated Israeli military Aggression, including Al-Shuja’iyya, Nuseirat, Jabalia, and Khan Yunis.

Palestinian authorities and human rights organizations have repeatedly highlighted the issue of Palestinian prisoners, estimating thousands remain in Israeli custody, including those held under administrative detention without trial. The release of these 16 detainees has been welcomed by their families and the broader Palestinian community as a partial victory in the long struggle for the freedom of all political prisoners.

This development occurs within the wider context of the ongoing Genocidal war on Gaza, which has caused immense humanitarian suffering and displacement. Palestinian officials continue to stress that any lasting ceasefire must include the release of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

The International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated the transfer in accordance with its humanitarian mandate.
